The first shipment of materials for the closing ceremony of the Expo has arrived for Customs formalities, according to Shanghai Customs District. The materials, which are valued at USD 8.02 million, include focus lamps, pumping systems and the control system for the fountain show in the closing ceremony. To ensure a smooth clearance for the materials, Customs officers did their job in advance. They acquired the relevant information of the consignment beforehand and got the goods classification work done before the declaration. Knowing that the materials cannot be assembled into a whole system in the Expo Park due to the operating conditions, Customs officers invented a new clearance model under which the parts can be inspected and put together right at the port of entry before the whole apparatus being shipped to the show area in the Park. Officers’ efforts resulted in a speedy clearance of the materials.
