Mr. Zhang Guangzhi’s Trip to the U.S. and Canada

In the middle of October 2017, Mr. Zhang Guangzhi, Member of the CPC Leadership Group for China Customs as well as the Head of National office of Port Administration, lead a delegation to visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

 

In his meetings with customs officials from the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Newark, several topics were discussed, including single window, clearance, coordinated border management as well as other germane topics. Besides this, Mr. Zhang and his delegation also visited customs depots to learn more about their operations and port clearance strategies and procedures. During his visit to the Los Angeles branch of freight expediter, SF Express, Mr. Zhang was informed of the investment made by the company as well as the clearance process the company had to deal with. During his trip in the U.S., Mr. Zhang also met with Newark’s Deputy Mayor, as well as the President of the Council for Trade and Investment Promotion (CTIP) for the state of New Jersey, exchanging views on Sino-US investment and other assorted trade issues.

 

In Ottawa, Mr. Zhang Guangzhi met with the CBSA’s Vice-President of Programs Mr. Martin Bolduc as well as their Vice-President of Operations Mr. Jacques Cloutier. They exchanged views on issues related to customs cooperation. Besides the meeting, Mr. Zhang also visited several customs depots at the Port of Toronto, and the International Mail Processing Center, to learn firsthand about the operations and clearance situation for Chinese enterprises in Canada.
