Hangzhou Customs Seizes Passenger with Endangered Turtle Specimens

Customs Seizure of the Specimens of Endangered Turtles

 

Shanghai Wildlife Identification Center confirmed in writing on May 8 that 2 turtle specimens, earlier seized by Hangzhou Customs at Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport, were one specimen of endangered green turtle, weighing 3.21 kilograms, and one specimen of hawksbill turtle, weighing 0.55 kilogram. Both of the turtles belong to China’s second-class protected wild animals and Appendix I of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).

 

Customs Reminder: as per the CITES, China’s Law on Protection of Wild Animals and China’s Regulations on Import and Export of Endangered Wildlife, such endangered species as green turtle and hawksbill turtle are prohibited from trade, carry and post without Import/Export Permit issued by Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office of China.
