Wuhan Customs Seizes First-batch Illegal Inbound Waste in 2020
06/02/2020

Customs seizure of illegal inbound PE waste

On May 19, Wuhan Customs seized 1.7 tons of import-banned solid waste at a cargo control point of Xingang Customs House, marking the first seizure of illegal inbound waste in Wuhan this year.

That day, the Customs House intercepted an inbound consignment declared as “reclaimed PE grains”, which smelled pungent and had uneven color, and finally identified them to be polyvinyl scraps or leftovers that belong to the solid waste prohibited from importation. By now, this batch of illegal waste is under anti-smuggling investigation.

Customs reminder: the act of importing banned or restricted solid waste is subject to legal liabilities, including criminal punishment, in accordance with China’s Law on Prevention and Treatment of Solid Waste Pollution.
