Just before dawn on October 10, officers from Customs Control Section of Meizhou Customs House (affiliated to Shantou Customs District) arrived at Mei County Airport and prepared for control over inbound and outbound flights.
At 7:00 am, Li Jianming, Section Chief of Meizhou Customs House, ensured everything ready. At 7:25 am, Jakarta-Meizhou flight run by Indonesian Sriwijaya Air punctually arrived.
“This is the inaugural flight from Jakarta to Meizhou, marking Meizhou’s first international scheduled direct flight,” Li Jianming said, “The liner will stay for a short time at Mei County Airport, so we have to finish all services for inward and outward passengers within one hour.”
Meizhou Customs House formulated control plans, assigned staff to temporary workgroup to get the information in advance about inward and outward flights and passengers, thus being ready for clearance. At 8:35 am, 95 outward passengers smoothly passed clearance process and took their inaugural flight to Jakarta.
Reportedly, the Fourth World Convention of Hakkas Businessmen, organized by Guangdong Provincial Government under the theme “Gathering Hakkas Businessmen to Create the Future of Maritime Silk Road”, will be held in Meizhou during October 11-13. Recently, Mei County Airport has seen increasing passengers from abroad, and many exhibits with the participants and journalists’ photographic equipment need to be declared in advance to the Customs. To fully ensure smooth clearance, Meizhou Customs House assigned a “Clearance Workgroup” to in-advance visit local authorities such as Meizhou Commerce Bureau, Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau and Taiwan Affairs Bureau and publicize clearance policies and regulations, understand information about participants, journalists and exhibits, as well as coordinate with relevant administrations for mutual assistance.
“Customs officers, caring for our needs, did their best in clearance of all exhibits to promote the exhibition as scheduled, and we are impressed by their efficient services,” said Deputy Director Tang with Taiwan Affairs Bureau of Meizhou City.
Officers of Meizhou Customs House helped inward/outward passengers with declaration formalities.
