Nanjing Customs Helps Nori Export from Lianyungang Port
11/18/2019

In Nanjing Customs District, a batch of seasoning nori to export to the EU was inspected by Lianyungang Customs House on November 4. In the workshop of the manufacturer—Lianyungang Heli Nori Company, customs officers checked nori product information including raw material stocking and cancel records, quality management records, and reports on pesticide residue and heavy metal tests.

In order to facilitate local nori export, Lianyungang Customs has improved the export control process, putting strict time limit on every step. Additionally, as an innovation in social governance on food safety, the Customs reached cooperation agreements with Lianyungang maritime and fishery administrations to share seabed mud monitoring data, prevent marine pollution from endangering seaweed, and bring gains to relevant enterprises.

Allegedly, in order to solve external technical barriers to trade, the Customs regularly holds trade risk seminars with nori businesses to discuss the changes in foreign industrial standards and relevant countermeasures; it also provides food safety training for the businesses at nori fairs.

At present, Lianyungang City has 134 manufacturers of exporting nori and 160,000 mu of cultured sea areas, forming a whole industrial chain from raw material cultivation to finished product processing. According to statistics, in January to October, Lianyungang exported more than 650 batches of nori products, with the value over 320 million yuan, achieving a steady growth.
