From April 12 to May 12, Nanjing Customs-affiliated Suzhou Customs intercepted live insects from inbound mails for 3 times.
The 3-batch insects, 44 intotal, were mainly sent from East and Southeast Asian countries for re-sale in China. The Inspection & Quarantine agency has identified the species to be dorbeetles including Megasoma elephus, Chalcosoma atlas, Chinese Lucanidae and Fabrice Lucanidae, all infected with ticks. They are all banned by the state from entry or import. Therein, Chinese Lucanidae and Fabrice Lucanidae were the first seizure from international mails in Jiangsu Province.
Each of the insects was placed in a plastic box sealed with adhesive tapes, but Customs officers found some boxes broken and some of the beetles creeping out.
Now, the Customs has transferred the insects to the Inspection & Quarantine agency.
