Nanning Customs Destroys 183,330 Cartons of Smuggled Cigarettes
01/03/2019

On December 25, Fangcheng Customs House (subordinate to Nanning Customs District) destroyed a total of 183,330 cartons of confiscated smuggled cigarettes, weighing 50 tons and worth 20 million Yuan in total, marking the largest scale of cigarette destruction conducted by Fangcheng Customs in recent years.

The destroyed cigarettes were earlier seized by the Customs House through “Nation-Gate Sword 2017” and “Nation-Gate Sword 2018” special operations, with the smuggling cases already closed. In recent years, Fangcheng Customs, by collaborating with local administrations of market regulation and tobacco monopoly, has been intensifying anti-smuggling investigation efforts in its jurisdictional area, with the aim of “busting major cases and rings, wiping out dens” that is regarded as the effective approach to curb tobacco smuggling.

As per state regulations, after being confiscated by Customs, the smuggled cigarettes must be put into destruction under the control of Customs and tobacco monopoly administrations and must not be marketed in any form.

This destruction process, in the control of Fangcheng Customs, was performed by a professional institution in the manner of incineration for power generation, providing not only higher efficiency and less cost, but also power energy as the added value.
