On January 26, Minister YU Guangzhou and Vice Minister SUN Yibiao held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Luc Portelance, President of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Mr. Martin Bolduc, Vice President of CBSA, and Mr. Guy Saint-Jacques, Canadian Ambassador to China in Beijing.

Minister YU spoke positively of the economic relations and Customs cooperation between the two countries, and put forward four proposals to enhance pragmatic cooperation between the two Customs administrations. Firstly, to strengthen intelligence cooperation under the framework of the Agreement Between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Canada on Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters to combat smuggling of narcotics, cash firearms and ammunition. Secondly, to strengthen cooperation on Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) to promote trade facilitation. Thirdly, to further cooperation on the application of customs facilities and information technology to enhance the performance of customs inspection. Fourthly, to set up a cooperative mechanism on training to boost capacity building cooperation.
