Shenzhen Customs Seizes 44 Smuggled Gold Bricks, Worth Over 10 Million Yuan

Customs seizure of gold bricks inside the armrest box in the car

 

Recently, Shenzhen Customs seized an outward smuggling of gold by a Hong Kong driver using a car.


On the evening of July 3, the Customs officers inspected a passenger car that was outbound for Hong Kong and, from inside the armrest box in the car, seized 44 pieces of gold bricks, totaling 44 kilograms (1kg/piece) and valued more than 10 million Yuan. At present, the driver has been under criminal detention and this case has been transferred to anti-smuggling investigation.


According to relevant regulations of China, precious metals such as gold, silver and their products are all restricted in exit, and their smuggling is subject to fixed-term or life imprisonment as per the seriousness of circumstances. After the smuggling case is closed, the seized gold bricks will be put into public auction by law and relevant proceeds will be totally turned into the state treasury.
