Recently, in Guangzhou Customs District, Baiyun Airport Customs House seized a foreign passenger with a large amount of counterfeit Indian money — 4,982 banknotes of 500 rupees, totaling INR2,491,000 equivalent to CNY252,000, the first time for Guangzhou Customs to seize counterfeit rupee inward by passenger control.
On that day, when exercising control at the entry of Baiyun Airport, Customs officers discovered Indian money of 500 rupees in two cartons from within a foreign passenger’s luggage. Afterwards, the officers noticed that those Indian banknotes were the same in numbers, different in paper thickness, and irregular in printing. Finally by identification, the paper rupees were all counterfeit. According to China’s List of Entry/Exit-Banned Articles, counterfeit money or counterfeit securities are banned from entry.
