During January-May this year, Dongxing Customs House, subordinate to Nanning Customs District, seized 3 cases of inward ivory smuggling through passenger-luggage inspections and detained 143 pieces of ivory products, weighing 5,155 grams in total, including an ivory sculpture of 30-centimeters length and 570-grams weight.
During the same period, Beijing Customs District cracked 13 cases of inward smuggling ivory products and seized 158 pieces of ivory products, totaling17 kilograms in weight.
On May 11, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Customs House, subordinate to Guangzhou Customs District, seized 23 pieces of ivory products including bracelets and chopsticks, totaling 1.2 kilograms weighty, from within the luggage of an inward Chinese passenger.
On May 5, anti-smuggling officers of Huangpu Customs intercepted an express parcel transferred from Guangxi Provinceto Dongguan, Guangdong Province; they seized 740 pieces of ivory products, totaling 28.83 kilograms in the parcel, with two criminal suspects put in custody.
According to GACC statistics, from January to May, China Customs put a total of 22 ivory-smuggling cases under investigation, with seized ivory products totaling 282 kilograms.
