Gongbei & Guangzhou Customs Crack “Red Oil” Smuggling

Recently, Gongbei Customs and Guangzhou Customs announced that, on December 26, 2016, they have jointly cracked one big case of red oil smuggling, seizing over 30,000 tons of red oil worth RMB150 million yuan, and 8 smuggling gangs with 64 criminal suspects.

 

The red oil is duty-free diesel oil with red additives used in Hong Kong as industrial fuel and maritime oil. On December 26, at 23:50, Gongbei Customs and Guangzhou Customs launched anti-smuggling action in waterway and roadway.

 

With the help of local public security and anti-smuggling departments, Gongbei Customs sent out over 120 officers in 19 action teams to searching and capture in Shunde, Huizhou, Yangjiang, Zhuhai and Zhongshan cities of Guangdong province finally they detained 3 mobile fisher-boats, 205 tons of red oil, more than HKD700,000 in cash, and one batch of computers, cell-phones, bank cards, documents and electronic accounts, freezing bank fund over RMB3.7 million yuan, and captured 64 persons, all of the targeted suspects.

 

At the same time, Guangzhou Customs Anti-Smuggling Bureau deployed 148 policemen and 26 vehicles to take action in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Foshan, seizing 15 persons involved. The officers ferreted out 3 oil decolouring spots, 80 oil tanks and 29 oil tank trucks as well as one batch of red oil, paper documents and electronic evidence.
