Recently, at the ports of Nanjing, Qingdao and Kunming, Customs Houses have successively detected pests in inbound articles and timely destroyed the infected articles by the law.

At Lianyungang Customs House subordinate to Nanjing Customs District, the officers intercepted adult ants in the containers of import grapefruits from Thailand and identified the ants as little fire ants (scientific name: Wassania auropunctata), which are one of the most detrimental imported ants listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Qingdao Customs intercepted 10 live insects in inbound mails, which have been identified as lucanidae including Prosopocoilus bison, Dorcus titanus, and Prosopocoilus lafertei.

At Tengchong Customs House subordinate to Kunming Customs District, the officers intercepted live pests in the kidney beans carried by inward passengers. The pests, 40 in total, were finally identified as bean weevils—a kind of quarantine pests.
