On June 19, in Kunming Customs District, Hekou Customs officers discovered one live red coral of about one kilogram in an incoming Vietnamese passenger’s luggage. Now this case is under further investigation.
Red coral, perceived as “red gold”, belongs to China’s first-class protected aquatic wild animals and is listed in Appendix Ⅲ of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (CITES) as one restricted in entry and banned from exit. The Customs reminds that passengers should be aware of the species restrictions and bans in entry or exit before taking wild animals/plants inbound and outbound so as not to break the law.
Hekou Customs seized 1kglive red coral inbound.
