04/26/2019

Customs seizure of Icelandic holothurians from passenger luggage

Recently, at Wenzhou Airport in Hangzhou Customs District, customs officers seized 1.02 kilograms of dried red holothurians originating from Iceland, which were concealed in an inbound passenger’s luggage.

Aquatic animals and their products are listed in the Catalog of Animals, Plants and Relevant Products Prohibited from Being Carried and Posted into China. The un-quarantined holothurian products were likely to carry epidemic diseases, posing a threat to domestic eco-environment and human health.

According to Hangzhou Customs statistics, over the first quarter, local passenger-control ports intercepted 2,360 batches of illegal and prohibited articles totaling 3,796.64 kilograms, including 869 batches of animal products totaling 1,023.54 kilograms.

The Customs reminds that the passengers should, before their entry and exit, understand and abide by the regulations on accompanying articles.
