On April 1, Nanchang Customs cracked a smuggling case of contact lenses, seizing 3 criminal suspects and over 500,000 contact lenses smuggled in. By estimate, this case was valued 20 million yuan, with 4 million yuan in tax. 

Through field investigation in a local optical company involved in the smuggling, the Customs seized 17 parcels sent from Japan together with these smuggled contact lenses. Allegedly, to evade customs control, the company had falsely declared the imported contact lenses as “noodles” and sent them separately by international express mails to false domestic recipients for the purpose of online sales.  

At present, the smuggling case is under further investigation.
