On March 9, Lianyungang Customs House (affiliated to Nanjing Customs District) worked with the local CIQ (China Inspection and Quarantine) agency for the harmlessly dispose of a batch of unqualified frozen cargoes from Australia. The 25 boxes, nearly 700 kilograms, of frozen prawns and crabs were destroyed because they were without Australian official quarantine certificates and therefore belonged to forbidden import goods. The disposal marked the first cooperation between the Customs House and the local CIQ agency to seize and destroy unqualified aquatic products since the building of the Customs-CIQ Cooperation Zone in Lianyungang port. With further development of the Zone, the Customs-CIQ cooperation will be expanded in the control of animal and plant products and import foodstuff.
Customs and CIQ officers were jointly disposing unqualified aquatic products.
