Unqualified Wines with Gold Foil Returned by Shijiazhuang Customs
03/24/2016

On March 7, Shijiazhuang Customs District announced that its affiliated Qinhuangdao Customs House detected gold foil from within a batch of imported golden sparkling wines and then, according to state regulations, returned that batch of wines, totally 300 bottles worth 1083 euro, to Germany, the origin country.

In recent years, grape wine is becoming more and more popular among Chinese people with rising consumption standards. Due to growing competition in the wine market, some foreign producers are offering wine with gold foil as a selling point. Wine with gold foil once became a hot topic on the Web. Though non-poisonous, gold can't be digested and absorbed by the human body. And wine added with gold foil does not comply with our national regulations on food additives, which belongs to substandard products. Therefore, Qinhuangdao Customs ordered the importer to return these wines.
