Customs seizure of human placenta extracts without entry permit
In Qingdao Customs District, an undeclared batch of human placenta extracts, including 3,300 injections (totaling 6,600 milliliters) and 200 capsules (totaling 70 grams), were seized by Yantai Customs House in the luggage of a passenger returning from Japan on September 9.
Human placenta extract, a kind of biological product under strict customs control, can only be brought into China on the strength of the Approval for Entry-Exit Health Quarantine on Special Articles. Without being quarantined, such products may be infected with HIV, hepatitis B/C, syphilis and other pathogens, posing a grave safety threat. Regarding such special articles as microorganism, organ, tissue, blood and their products without entry permit, the customs authority will detain them for return or destruction according to law.
By now, Yantai Customs has detained the aforesaid placenta extracts under further investigation.
