Customs interception of live cactus plants in inbound post

On August 8, Customs officers stationed in Qingdao Post Office intercepted a suspicious parcel from Japan and, by unpacking inspection, seized 7 live plants of the cactus family. The 7 plants were finally identified to be 5 grafted lophophora, 1 grafted Coryphantha elephantidens and 1 endangered Pelecyphora aselliformis, all of them reproducible and potential to spread plant diseases.

As per China Customs regulations, seedlings and other reproducible plant materials are prohibited from entry in the postal and carry ways, so Qingdao Customs has detained those cactus plants for further disposal.
