Gongbei Customs Destroys 115.95 Tons of Smuggled Frozen Foods

On the morning of July 13, Gongbei Customs made a centralized destruction of 115.95 ton smuggled frozen foods at a garbage power plant in Zhuhai city. It was the second centralized destruction since the special campaign Gateway Sword 2016was launched by the Customs early this year.

 

At9 a.m., carrying boxes of frozen meat, a fleet of trucks escorted by customs officers entered the garbage power plant. Afterwards, thousands of well packaged frozen foods were dumped into a deep pit and then conveyed into a blast furnace to be burned to ash. The process continued into deep night.

 

The destroyed frozen foods were seized during March and May, including many varieties like beef, beef rib, pork ribs, pork tripe, pettitoes and chicken wings, worth RMB1,923,000 in total. These foods were declared fromBrazil, theUSA, theUK, andJapan, but without legal certificates. Identified by CIQ authority, they were the products from epidemic regions overseas.

 

To avoid harm and remnant, those foods were transported by sealed container trucks under customs officers escort, and the whole processes of loading, unloading, transport and destruction were monitored by video recorder.

 

From January to June, Gongbei Customs seized 10 cases of frozen food smuggling, involving 198.6 tons of foods, worth RMB3.688 million.
