By identification, the turtle pieces suspected of smuggling, seized on land by Jiangmen Customs Anti-Smuggling Bureau a few days ago, were Ganges soft-shell turtle pieces that are enlisted as Class-Ⅰ endangered wild species under national protection.
Those turtle pieces were captured on intelligence on the common border of Yangchun City and Luoding City. At that time, one truck suspected of smuggling carried animal and plant-made products including imported dried shark fin, turtle pieces, maca (lepidium meyenii walp), moringa seeds and American ginseng, weighing 17 tons in total. Therein, there were over 2500 Ganges soft-shell turtle pieces weighing 120kg.
