On March 14, in Xiamen Customs District, 530 tons of smuggled frozen foods were destroyed through harmless treatments into bio-fuels for power plants, marking the first disposal of frozen foods this way by Xiamen Customs.
At 9 o'clock on February 20, these frozen foods were smuggled into a port outside the Customs controlled area in Zhangzhou city and then were seized during their transit to Guangdong province. Most of them were from epidemic areas in USA and Brazil, without being quarantined regularly.
Regarding disposal of the frozen foods, Xiamen Customs entrusted a specialist agency to carry out harmless destruction: through the processes of water controlling, fermentation and burning, the frozen foods were all transformed into bio-fuels applicable to power plants, thus not only avoiding secondary pollution and keeping combustion products away from human or animal food chains, but also achieving efficient utilization of bio-resources.
