Guangzhou Customs Begins “Multimodal Transport” for Bonded Export by China Railway Express
08/09/2018

On July 20, loaded with 41 containers of goods, the “Guangzhou-Manzhouli-Russia” train of China Railway Express pulled out of Dalang Railway Station, Guangzhou City and was expected to reach Moscow, Russia 15 days later. Differently from the past, 9 containers filled with shoes and leather products, totaling 61 tons and over 1.72 million euro worth, were earlier transited to Dalang Railway Station by highway from Nansha Guangzhou Bonded Port Area after being released by Nansha Customs House.

It was the first time for bonded goods in Guangzhou Customs District to be exported under Customs transit by both highway and China Railway Express. In such “Multimodal Transport” mode, goods from home or abroad can not only take advantage of the bonded policies and shipping conditions of Nansha Bonded Port Area but also utilize the convenience of China Railway Express.

For example, in the export from Southeast Asia to Europe, sea transportation is mostly chosen for low cost, but it’s time-consuming; now, the Southeast Asian goods can be first transported to Nansha Bonded Port Area by highway or by sea, and then transited by highway to Dalang Railway Station, where they can be transferred to China Railway Express for faster delivery to Europe.

“This is equivalent to a new logistics channel in the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative,” said He Wang, General Manager of NBC Global Logistics Company Ltd. “By using China Railway Express, the logistics time for export to Europe can be reduced to 15 days and the cost can also be reduced a lot; this year, our exports to Europe by multimodal transport will reach 10 million euro in value.”
