On May 24, Gongbei Customs District’s Jiuzhou Customs House seized three maize-yellow bracelets, seemingly made of ivory, from two Chinese passengers back from Nigeria. On May 31, South China Wild life Identification Center confirmed those bracelets to be ivory products.
In accordance with CITES and China’s Customs Law as well as Wildlife Protection Law, ivory and related products are all covered by CITES Appendix I and their entry must go through the Customs on the strength of Import/Export Permit issued by the Endangered Species Import And Export Management Office of the PRC; otherwise, their entry and exit are banned, by any trade mode or by carry and mail.
