Qingdao Customs Clears In 4,403 Breeding Cattle from New Zealand
05/23/2020

On May 8, Qingdao Customs District cleared 4,403 breeding cattle from New Zealand, marking the first and largest batch of imported cattle into Qingdao since the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic.

After passing relevant quarantine, this batch of breeding cattle will be transported to Gansu Province and Xinjiang Region to be used for improving Chinese cattle genetic structure.

It will take 50 days for the Customs to control and quarantine the inbound cattle. Before their arrival at Qingdao, the Customs made a double plan on both animal quarantine and epidemic control, setting a collaborative mechanism between the port of entry and the customs houses in charge to streamline the whole clearance process involving seamen health quarantine, cattle import declaration, and cattle quarantine on the basis of anti-epidemic biosafety.

On the arrival of the cattle, to ensure fast clearance, subordinate Huangdao Customs House immediately made inspection and quarantine aboard the carrying vessel. Health quarantine officers checked the shipping route with all ports of call and made medical examination of all seamen; after that, animal quarantine officers immediately inspected all of the cattle, including clinical examination, ear tag verification, logbook check, verification of quarantine certificate issued by New Zealand, and sterilization of transport facilities.
