Ningbo Customs interception of the powder with barley stripe mosaic virus
Recently, Ningbo Customs officers found a postal parcel from Ethiopia suspicious under X-ray examination. They opened the parcel and discovered one bag of powder, seemingly as some cereal, weighing 0.98 kilogram; through virus detection, barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) was detected in the powder, marking the first interception of this virus at the postal port of Ningbo.
Barley stripe mosaic virus is harmful to crops such as barley, wheat and corn. So, the Customs destroyed the bag of infected powder as per relevant regulations.
