Guangzhou Customs Seizes 55,000 IPR-Infringing Goods in First Half Year
07/30/2020

In the first half year, through the “Soaring Dragon 2020” campaign, Guangzhou Customs seized 1,004 batches of IPR-infringing goods totaling 55,000 pieces and 3.23 million yuan worth, so as to protect 85 IPRs of 61 Chinese and foreign brands involving anti-epidemic supplies, garments, footwear, bags, personal care products, wristwatches, and electronic products.

In response to web-based IPR infringement that’s increasing, Guangzhou Customs uses big-data technique to enhance the traceability and seizure of the infringement in imports and exports by mail, express delivery and cross-border e-commerce regarding the “Belt and Road”-involved countries/regions.

On April 17, the Customs-stationed Post Office seized 155 pairs of sneakers infringing on “NIKE” trademark right in an outbound post; on June 17, the Customs also seized counterfeit bags and shoes with “LV”, “GUCCI” and “YSL” logos in 23 outbound posts.

Guangzhou Customs provides great support for the exports of Chinese proprietary products. For example, Guangzhou Harley Company Ltd., a local mask manufacturer, enjoys customs guidance and services for its IPR registration and protection to the benefit of its mask exports. Since this year, the Customs has seized 11,600 counterfeits infringing on Chinese brands such as “HUAWEI”, “Vivo” and “Hisense”.

Guangzhou Customs keeps collaboration with local trademark, patent and copyright administrations in enforcement info exchange, infringement confirmation and case handover, and assists local court of law and public security bureau in IPR investigation and enforcement; additionally, the Customs cooperates well with Hong Kong Customs and Macao Customs in IPR enforcement actions to secure the business climate in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
