Nanjing Customs Seizes 72kg Illegal Seeds at Airport
10/19/2020

On October 5, Nanjing Customs seized 72 kilograms of foreign plant seeds in an inbound luggage at Nanjing Lukou International Airport.

That afternoon, through out-of-box inspection of that luggage, customs officers found bags of plant seeds totaling 72 kilograms, which were later identified as palm seeds. According to relevant regulations, reproducible plant materials like seeds, seedlings and soil are all prohibited from being carried or posted inward. Without being quarantined, such inbound materials will cause not only alien biological invasion but also cross-border spread of pests and epidemic diseases.

At present, this batch of palm seeds are detained under quarantine and investigation.

Customs reminder: For entry/exit with animals, plants and their products, passengers must be informed of relevant regulations in advance and go through customs formalities including declaration, inspection and quarantine by presenting official quarantine/phytosanitary certificate issued by an exporting country/region.
