Customs officers inspect the export zongzi

With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, the export of Chinese “zongzi” (a kind of glutinous rice dumpling) has been increasing in quantity from Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, which is the major place of origin of Chinese zongzi. On June 14, Jiaxing Customs House, subordinate to Hangzhou Customs District, dispatched officers to Zhejiang Wufangzhai Group Company to conduct sampling inspection over a batch of export zongzi.

Zhang Jianfang, a Jiaxing Customs officer, said: “In order to ensure the smooth export, we will strictly follow the requirements of the importing countries to conduct sampling inspections on all types of export zongzi, particularly intensifying the detection on the residues of pesticide and veterinary drug and on microbiological indicators out of limits."

Thanks to efficient Customs services, “Jiaxing zongzi” can easily go overseas. According to Customs statistics, during January-May this year, zongzi exports from Jiaxing totaled 219.5 tons, an increase of 74.1% year-on-year.
