On June 1, Vice Minister Sun Yibiao met with Mr. Roman Quaedvlieg, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Customs and Border Protection Service in Beijing.
The two sides positively evaluated China-Australia economic and trade development and Customs cooperation, and reached a range of consensus on continuously deepening cooperation on risk management, enforcement and trade facilitation, etc. under the framework of the Customs Strategic Partnership between China and Australian Customs.
After being briefed on the introduction of Australian Customs reform, Vice Minister Sun made four proposals on furthering cooperation. Firstly, to continue enhancing risk management cooperation by optimizing contact and communication mechanisms and improving the quality of data exchanged. Secondly, to continue to further cooperation in enforcement and intelligence exchange, making full use of the information exchange mechanism to effectively crack down the smuggling of drugs and precursor chemicals, and to continue enforcement cooperation including the training and breeding of detector dogs, and fighting against commercial fraud. Thirdly, to continue strengthening communication and collaboration in trade facilitation, sharing experience of AEO mutual recognition, and providing more facilitation to legitimate trade. Fourthly, to continue to carry on the preparations for the implementation of China-Australia Free Trade Agreement.
After the meeting, Vice Minister Sun and Mr. Roman Quaedvlieg signed the 2015 Arrangement for the Customs Strategic Partnership between China and Australian Customs.
