Customs officers makes weight inspection for the ship.

At the port of Fangcheng in Nanning Customs District, the Customs House on July 13 confirmed an import of Brazilian iron ore to be seriously short of weight, including the shortage of 454 tons in wet weight (shortage rate 12.27‰) and 549 tons in dry weight (shortage rate 16.145‰). Accordingly, the Customs House, by issuing the weight certificate, helped the importer retrieve a loss of 454,800 yuan.

Since this year, Fangcheng Customs House has been intensifying weight inspection for large bulk cargos by a so-called “balance action” against trade frauds.

Generally, the Customs House makes pre-analysis of fraud risks in import bulk cargos, with focus on iron and copper ore; through in-process control, conducts intensive inspection on key items by using drone (UAV) and observation boat; helps communications among importers, port administration and third-party agencies to ensure precise detection of short weights.

In post-treatment, the Customs House timely issues weight certificate and helps importers with the claim for compensation. Over the first half year, the Customs detected a total shortage of 35,800 tons for import bulk cargos, helped importers with 119 claims and retrieved them a total of over 72.18 million yuan.
