Ningbo Customs Returns Import Solid Waste for Excessive Radioactivity
06/03/2019

The Customs detects the radioactivity by using the robot.

Recently in Ningbo Customs District, nearly 20 tons of import waste brass was intercepted by Beilun Customs House because excessive radioactivity was detected therein.

At the control site of the Customs House, the waste brass triggered the alarm of radioactivity detector and then, by using the detection robot, customs officers measured the waste radiation dose rate (γ) to be 3.89μSv/h, 11 times higher than state limit value. Therefore, the Customs House immediately returned the waste outward by issuing Inspection & Quarantine Certificate and Disposal Notice.
