Shanghai Customs Runs Mobile Lab for Nucleic Acid Testing at Airport
08/25/2020

On August 7, a mobile cabin laboratory for nucleic acid testing was delivered to Shanghai Customs for its application at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

This lab is China’s first P2+ mobile nucleic-acid testing laboratory in standard container size, suitable for truck, vessel and train transports. Inside, the lab is divided into 3 chambers for reagent preparation, specimen treatment, and nucleic acid testing respectively in line with the requirements on reinforced bio-safety laboratory.

The mobile lab is used for immediate inspection and quarantine at the airport so as to save 2 hours of waiting time from going to downtown labs. And the lab is provided with 3 vehicles for central control, reagent preparation, and specimen collection respectively to meet different operational requirements.

By estimate, this mobile lab can finish at least 200 nucleic acid tests per day now and will daily test as many as 1,500 persons in future. Besides boosting the lab capacity, Shanghai Customs will promote the cross-regional application of the lab in multiple scenes and modes to provide replicable practices.
