The endangered coral seized by the Customs
On October 12, Gongbei Customs’ animal inspection laboratory identified that one 1.4-kilogram white coral, earlier seized by Zhakou Customs House, is an endangered species of Scleractinia. Several days ago, the endangered coral was seized inside the luggage of an inbound passenger who had no certificate for endangered species.
Inbound and outbound passengers, carrying or posting endangered species or relevant products, must declare to Customs by presenting the approvals issued by China’s Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office as well as quarantine certificate issued by relevant countries or regions; otherwise, illegal import, export and smuggling are subject to administrative penalty by Customs or to criminal penalty in serious cases.
