Shanghai Customs Seizes Smuggled European Eel Fry

Recently, Pudong Airport Customs House (affiliated to Shanghai Customs District) successively seized 3 cases of European eel smuggled by passengers, involving 68 bags of live eel fry.

 

European eel is listed in the Appendix of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species for Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Due to their special life habit and physiological property, now European eels cannot be artificially bred on a large scale and they are mainly imported from the European countries along the Atlantic coast with wild eels.

 

 

Shanghai Customs seized European eel fry carried by passengers.
