On February 21, Yiwu Customs House (affiliated to Hangzhou Customs District) intercepted hundreds of pangolin scales and a few worked ivory products concealed in a cookie box on the customs control venue. The seized articles had a combined weight of 752 grams, including 557 grams of ivory products and 195 grams of pangolin scales.
On the evening of February 7, when conducting a routine inspection upon a middle-aged man, Yiwu Customs House officers noticed an ordinary-looking but heavy cookie box in his luggage. After opening the box, the officers found a bundle of pangolin scales and worked African ivories tightly wrapped with kraft paper. As the passenger could not show any import documentations, the Customs temporarily detained the products for further investigation.
Customs officers were recording the seized endangered animal products.
