Gongbei Customs Cracks 2 Electronic Product Smuggling Gangs
08/17/2016

Recently, Gongbei Customs cracked an inward smuggling case of electronic products including cellphones and tablet PCs by two gangs, worth about RMB36 million.

Early this year, Gongbei Customs Anti-Smuggling Department received a clue about the smuggling inward. Through half-year investigation, two gangs were found out and targeted. On the early morning of July 12, the Customs took anti-smuggling action in Gongbei, Xiawan and Xiangzhou to search more than 30 residences and shops, seizing 97 smuggled sets of Apple, Samsung cellphones and tablet PCs, a batch of certificates, and 23 suspects involved, and later making 18 smugglers under criminal detention.

When searching a residence, the anti-smuggling officers were resisted by suspects by locking doors, throwing packs and destroying evidences. The officers tried to control 5 suspects in the house and found two discarded backpacks containing 22 Apple cellphones, 4 Samsung cellphones and 2 Appletablet PCs, as well as one USB drive containing smuggled goods information, which was hidden in a flowerpot.

Allegedly, the two gangs purchased many electronic products of Apple and Samsung brands in Macao, then disassembled them into mainframes, components and outer packages for individual members to bring into the mainland, and finally sold the products in Zhuhai. By statistics, the two gangs smuggled in about 7,200 sets of electronic products including Apple 6S, 6S PLUS, MINI Tablet PCs and Samsung S6, S7 cellphones, worth about RMB36 million or so. Currently, this case is under further investigation.
