Guangzhou Customs Intercepts two Drug Trafficking Cases
05/14/2015

On April 5, Baiyun Airport Customs House (affiliated to Guangzhou Customs District) intercepted two illicit drug trafficking cases by body packing in a row in two hours. The smugglers, who tired to use as a cover the flocks of people passing through Customs in the Qingming Festival Holidays to avoid customs control, were at last stopped by Customs officers.

Around 3 p.m. that day, when exercising control, Customs officers noticed a foreign female. In further questioning and inspection, officers became suspicious that the female may be an internal drug courier. Later, confirmation was got from the hospital that the female had swallowed 82 “poisonous” capsules, weighing 845 grams. Another foreign male was arrested at around 5 p.m. and the person confessed that he had taken in “poisonous” capsules before boarding his flight. The investigation of the two cases was continuing, said Customs officers.

According to the statistics, by April 6, Guangzhou Customs District had seized 12 drug trafficking cases in luggage control at the airport since the start of the national anti-drug smuggling campaign codenamed “Violet Light”.
