Hangzhou Customs Seizes Dried Sea Horses without Import Permit

Recently, Hangzhou Customs seized precious animal products dried sea horses illegally carried by an inward passenger, weighing 1.6 kilograms in total.

 

On that day, when inspecting at passenger entry channel, the customs officers found out abnormal image scanned of the luggage of one male passenger. By open-case inspection, two packs of marine animal products as dried sea horses were seized.

 

According to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), dried sea horses belong to precious animal/plant products restricted in entry/exit. Thus, a passenger should hold Import/Export Permit issued by Endangered Animal/Plant Management Office and make declaration to the Customs for mailing, carrying, consigning wild animals/plants and their products inbound or outbound. Because the passenger had no Import Permit, the Customs detained those dried sea horses by law.

 

 

The customs officer was showing seized 1.6kg dried sea horses.
