On May 13, in Qingdao Customs District, the Customs-stationed post office seized one specimen of pangolin, 2.88kgheavy and74cmlong, and put it under detention. Pangolin is one of China’s Grade-Ⅱ Key Protected Animals that are restricted in entry and exit.
That day, the Customs officers doing X-ray inspection upon an inward parcel fromJapanfound out the air-dried specimen pangolin in a box, whose abdomen had a cut-through sign and whose limbs, head and tail were all penetrated with wires.
Listed in the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora”, pangolin and its specimen/product can only be carried for entry into or exit from a country/region with an official permit according to laws and regulations.
