Hangzhou Customs Upholds “Soaring Dragon” Campaign to Protect Exporters’ Proprietary IPRs
11/02/2018

On October 22, Yiwu Customs (subordinate to Hangzhou Customs District) formally detained a batch of automatic voltage stabilizers that were suspected of infringing “YAMAMOTO” trademark right. This case marked the first seizure of key IPR (intellectual property right) infringement in Hangzhou Customs District since the “Soaring Dragon” campaign launched this year.

The “Soaring Dragon” campaign is conducted by China Customs to specifically protect proprietary IPRs of Chinese export enterprises. Those automatic voltage stabilizers, totaling 900 in number, were infringing on the “YAMAMOTO” trademark that is owned by TAIHAI MACHINERY (WUHAN) CO., LTD. The counterfeits of electromechanical parts, automotive parts, food and drugs are likely to harm human health and safety, so they are always the key target under Customs analysis and inspection.

Since the launch of this campaign, Yiwu Customs has been keeping close touch with the exporters that have proprietary IPRs, offering them with special training and modeling programs, and has assigned special coordinators to provide policy interpretation, assistance in registration, guidance on IPR protection, and other specific services.
