On the evening of March 31, at Yiwu Airport, 136 passengers from Taiwan Province orderly passed the customs control channel with great joy, marking the opening of the Yiwu-Taipei regular round-trip air route and Yiwu's becoming the first county-level city in the mainland with direct air routes to Taiwan Province.
The Yiwu-Taipei route, with a weekly flight, is the second regular regional air route after the Yiwu-Hong Kong air route at Yiwu Airport.
Yiwu City, known as "the capital of small commodities", accommodates more than 2,000 Taiwanese merchants in all walks of life, often seeing numerous travelers going to Taiwan. The Yiwu-Taipei air route can save more than 1.5 hours for passengers compared with the air route departing from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport, providing greater convenience for business and traveling.
To assure convenient and fast customs clearance for the cross-strait passengers, Yiwu Customs House (affiliated to Hangzhou Customs District) sets up an “information desk with smiling service” at the airport clearance site, arranges senior officers to answer the passenger’s questions, distributes brochures like the Entry and Exit Guide for free to introduce laws and regulations on entry and exit, and strengthens cooperation with local government agencies, civil aviation administrations, airline companies as well as inspection-quarantine agencies to ensure passenger clearance in an efficient way. On the day of the maiden flight, Yiwu Customs released 136 inbound passengers as well as 8 crew members.
