A few days ago, Jilin Customs (affiliated to Changchun Customs District) captured a smuggling of Russian ginseng by international shuttle bus, seizing 4 criminal suspects and 1,339 plants of Russian ginsengs weighing about 22.35 kilograms.
Earlier in May 2014, Jilin Customs anti-smuggling officers learned a gang suspected of smuggling ginsengs inward. Through further investigation, the officers gradually grasped criminal facts of the gang to smuggle Russian ginsengs. In late October this year, with the help of Harbin Customs, Changchun officers seized 4 criminal suspects who were making ginseng deals in a residential community in Suifenhe city, Heilongjiang Province, as well as 1,339 ginsengs from abroad on the spot. Through professional identification by State Forestry Administration, the seized ginsengs were wild ginsengs originating in Russia, listed as a protected plant in Appendix Ⅱ of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).
Customs officers were counting the seized wild ginsengs.
