Shanghai Hongqiao Airport Customs House(affiliated to Shanghai Customs District) has begun a pilot service for direct mails from abroad over cross-border e-commerce, with the first import consignment successfully released on August 12. That consignment was 83.3 kilograms of cosmetics and food airlifted from Taiwan, worth CNY 9,561. The Customs House smoothly received the declaration data and finished the clearance formalities, marking the formal open to cross-border e-commerce direct mails at Hongqiao Aiport.
The import by direct purchase over cross-border e-commerce is similar to ordinary purchase online in China. By placing orders online to foreign commodities, domestic buyers can enjoy the same convenience as they buy in China. To facilitate such direct mails from abroad, Shanghai Customs District has rolled out many measures including a special low-risk fast track, which can receive pre-declaration of directly mailed imports and give them real-time inspection and release. In the next step, Shanghai Customs District will actively explore a mode to control the return and replacement of cross-border e-commerce imports.
