Minister YU Guangzhou Chairs BRICS Customs Heads Meeting

On September 3, 2017, Minister YU Guangzhou of China Customs chaired BRICS Customs Heads Meeting in Xiamen, China.

 

Minister YU Guangzhou welcomed the other Heads of BRICS Customs Administrations to China, and expressed the appreciation to other BRICS Customs Administrations for their strong support and active assistance extended to China Customs as the host of BRICS Customs activities in 2017. Minister YU also expressed his hope that BRICS Customs Administrations carry forward the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win and follow the principle of “wide consultation, joint construction and shared benefits” so as to boost policy consultation, trade promotion and Customs connectivity.

 

Minister YU Guangzhou reviewed the history of BRICS Customs cooperation, and made six proposals for future cooperation: First, to maximize the instructional role of the Strategic Framework of BRICS Customs Cooperation to lay foundation for cooperation; Second, to serve the development of trade and economy and promote trade facilitation; Third, to strengthen enforcement cooperation and protect social security; Fourth, to face common challenges and address such emerging issues as cross-border E-commerce; Fifth, to carry out capacity building and expedite Customs modernization; Sixth, to carry forward with the negotiation of BRICS Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement.

 

In the Meeting, Heads of BRICS Customs exchanged views and reached consensus on the implementation of the Strategic Framework of BRICS Customs Cooperation.

 

During his stay in Xiamen, Minister YU Guangzhou met with Vice Governor LI Dejin of Fujian Province. Mr. ZOU Zhiwu, Vice Minister of China Customs and Mr. ZHANG Guangzhi, member of the CPC  Leadership Group of GACC, also attended the above activities.
