Shantou Customs Seizes Live Parrots being Smuggled Outward
05/12/2017

On May 4, Shantou Customs captured a criminal suspect smuggling live parrots outward and seized 13 parrots from his dwelling. With other parrots seized at Chaoshan Airport, the Customs detained a total of 57 live parrots, marking the first seizure of rare wild animals smuggled at the exit of Shantou.

Reportedly, South China Wildlife Identification Center has identified those parrots as Fischer's Blue Lovebirds, brightly colorful in appearance and listed in Appendix of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna & Flora (CITES).

At present, this case is under further investigation.
