Ningbo Customs Strikes IPR Infringement to Safeguard “The Belt and Road” International Trade
06/16/2016

Recently, Ningbo Customs seized a batch of junction boxes infringing on Viko trademark right, totaling 12, 376 pieces worth RMB553, 000.

The seizure was made by affiliated Beilun Customs House. When an officer surnamed Sun inspected a batch of goods to be exported to Djibouti, he found out that the junction boxes therein were all roughly printed with Viko trademark on their packages. The Viko trademark is registered in China Customs Registration System for IPR Protection, but the export declarer, a trading company from Nanchang City, has no authorization to use this trademark.

The Viko trademark owner, VIKO Electric & Electronic Industry Company Limited, is Turkey's leading appliance manufacturer majoring in electric connectors, including switches, sockets, breakers and etc.

According to Officer Sun, both Djibouti and Turkey are key nodes in China's The Belt and Road strategy as well as the highlights of the Customs Breeze campaign. Since July 2015, Ningbo Customs has continuously been carrying out the Breeze campaign to maintain overseas image of China-made products by suppressing the export of IPR-infringing products, with control and inspection focused on important commodities involving safety and health exported to the countries along The Belt and Road, so as to keep foreign trade in order.

Customs officers were counting IPR-infringing junction boxes.
