09/28/2019

China’s first polar cruise ship of “Greg Mortimer” at Nantong Port

In Nanjing Customs District, China’s first polar cruise ship “Greg Mortimer” was launched from Nantong Port on September 9 for its maiden trip to the Antarctic.

Jointly built by China Merchants Industry and SunStone, the “Greg Mortimer” cruise, 104.4 meters long, 18.4 meters wide, and not less than 15.5 knots in speed, meets the strictest requirements on safe polar navigation and is applicable to non-restricted waters, taking a global lead in this field.

From March 16, 2018 till September 6, 2019, totally 514 batches of bonded and non-bonded materials/parts were imported for building this ship. In control of the imports, Nantong Customs House conducted online e-account supervision and such measures as “self-registration, self-verification and self-payment of tax”, increasing the efficiency by 70% for each transaction; helped relevant enterprises with product classification problems, providing over 10 times of classification instructions on nearly 200 bonded materials/parts including electric generators, propellers, and sewage treatment equipment.

On September 2,  the “Greg Mortimer” was done with export declaration to Nantong Customs, getting ready for its departure in advance.
